One dreary night back in 2001 I was reading a men’s magazine and stumbled across an article about how to sell porn online. I found it interesting and was enticed by the glittering sales text. I mean, who doesn’t want to make money online? It’s not my fault the first article I read about it was tied to porn! I decided I’d check it out at my first opportunity. So, as soon as I got to work the next morning I fired up the website mentioned in the article and after thinking about it a bit, I joined up to Adult Webmaster School for the princely sum of $140. My fellow cubicle workers were unaware and continued grunting noisily at their keyboards…
The AWS website taught me how to build advertising pages to promote adult affiliate programs and where to submit them, but it just scratched the surface. It took me almost a year of learning the ropes on nights and weekends before I quit my job and went full time slinging porn, and I’ve been doing it ever since.
Yes there is money in it. According to the 2006 Internet Pornography Statistics,
“The pornography industry is larger than the revenues of the top technology companies combined: Microsoft, Google, Amazon, eBay, Yahoo!, Apple, Netflix and EarthLink”
Indeed some lucky people have had the right idea at the right time and made themselves millions. Notice I said lucky, as they’re as rare as lottery winners, even though they do exist. Working online, porn or mainstream, is a job. Just a very flexible job where you are your own boss and look at porn for a living.
